Waejong Kim was born and grew up in Korea. In 1989 she
moved to Tokyo, Japan. After graduation from Tokyo
University of Foreign Studies with a degree in
Japanese, she worked as an interpreter for three
years. After that she opened Seian, a Korean fusion
restaurant in Nagoya, Japan with her sister. In 2001
Waejong moved to New York City. In the Spring of 2004
Waejong learned to crochet and since then
she hasn't stopped crocheting. In the fall of 2004
she took a long vacation from her corporate job and
never went back because all she wanted to do was to
crochet all day long. In the spring of 2004 she met
an artist Anna Pulvermakher at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology
and in November they founded Loopy Mango together.
Waejong is fulfilling her dream of creating one of a
kind crochet clothes, jewelry and accessories. Waejong's designs have been featured in
various fasion magazines, including Vogue.
Waejong and Anna have published Crochet Jewelry: 40 Beautiful and Unique Designs
in the fall of 2007.
